Position Overview

Research and provide referenced content on environmental topics for our website, workshops and position papers; current priority on upcoming workshops addressing consumerism and household toxins.

Volunteer Duties

Research specified topics from home at your leisure via the internet and/or print materials.

Provide references for all source materials.

Submit all collected information (in bullet point format) via email on or before assigned deadline.

Skills Required

Access to a computer and the internet

Basic computer, word processing and email capabilities

Ability to navigate the internet to find relevant information as assigned

Ability to accurately reference sources of information gathered (template can be provided if necessary)

Time commitment

Topic assignments will be made based on the volunteer’s interests and the amount of time each volunteer has to offer.

Minimum commitment 5 hrs or one research topic

• Assisting with the development of new environmental workshops for the public by doing research from home, proofreading content and creating power-point presentations
  
• Helping to staff our booths at public events like the Green Reel Film Festival and the Windfall Ecology Festival
• Attending municipal council meetings and/or environmental advisory committee meetings and reporting on their proceedings
• Becoming a topic expert for municipal/issues response work; requires research, formulating responses, and making deputations at meetings
• Writing articles for our quarterly newsletter GREENWORKS
• Assisting workshop facilitators (beginning in spring) by setting up room & equipment, answering questions, handing out materials etc.
• Facilitating workshops (once properly trained) on environmental topics (i.e. Organic Lawn Care, becoming a conscientious consumer, household toxins etc.)
• Becoming a member of the YREA board of directors
• Assisting the board of directors as a committee member for fundraising and/or policy and bylaw amendment/development
